In the 1970s, the neuromodulator Botox© been used therapeutically for strabismus (crossed eyes). After treating clients with this condition, it was found that Botox© corrected orbital asymmetry and reduced frown wrinkles (1). In 2001, Botox© was approved for cosmetic purposes and has become the most popular non-surgical treatment worldwide (1). At Glass Skin Med Spa, we offer a variety of neuromodulation treatments to minimize moderate to severe frown and forehead lines, crow's feet, and lip lines, providing a natural smoothing and rejuvenating appearance. Our neuromodulation treatments also correct asymmetries such as brow lift, mouth corners, gummy smile correction, and jowl formation due to weight loss or facial atrophy (aging process). Dermal Fillers | Biostimulators
Dermal fillers, like hyaluronic acid and biostimulators are widely used dermal fillers in cosmetic procedures.
Hyaluronic Acid: a natural substance in the body, helps maintain skin volume and hydration, making it effective for smoothing wrinkles, enhancing lips, and restoring facial volume when used in dermal fillers.
Calcium hydroxylapatite (Radiesse): a mineral-like compound, is also used to fill in wrinkles and lines and add volume to areas of the face that have lost elasticity. This filler is also a bio-stimulator when diluted with sterile sodium chloride (normal saline).

Biostimulator Radiesse: When diluted Radiesse is injected, it initially provides subtle volume and lift that refreshes the skin's appearance and improves texture. The calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres act as a scaffold, stimulating collagen and elastin production over time. Increased collagen enhances skin firmness and reduces lines, while elastin boosts elasticity. These effects develop naturally over several months, resulting in healthier and more youthful skin that looks natural and lasts longer compared to traditional fillers. Radiesse offers natural-looking results, extended longevity, and versatility for enhancing the face, neck, and hands by addressing various aging concerns.

At Glass Skin Med Spa, we exclusively use Health Canada-approved dermal fillers, such as Teosyal and Radiesse to correct facial asymmetries and achieve natural-looking results that harmonize with our client's natural features.

Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatments
What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma)?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a concentration of platelets derived from the patient’s own blood. Platelets are a component of blood that play a crucial role in healing, as they provide essential growth factors that aid in tissue regeneration and repair. These growth factors stimulate collagen production, promote angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), and accelerate the healing process.
How PRP is Used For Skin Rejuvenation:
PRP therapy is widely utilized for its anti-aging benefits and skin rejuvenation properties. The process typically involves drawing a small amount of blood from the patient, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting or applying the PRP into the skin.
Benefits for Skin:

Reduces Fine Lines and Wrinkles | PRP can stimulate collagen production, resulting in tighter, more youthful skin.
Improves Texture and Tone | It enhances skin texture and minimizes pore size, promoting a smoother complexion. -
Minimizes Acne Scars and Hyperpigmentation | The growth factors in PRP facilitate skin healing and regeneration, which can help reduce the appearance of acne scars and pigmentation issues.
For Scalp and Hair Rejuvenation:
PRP is also popular in treating hair loss, as the growth factors in PRP can encourage hair follicle growth and improve hair density.

Benefits for Scalp:
Promotes Hair Growth | PRP injections into the scalp can boost inactive hair follicles, fostering hair regrowth.
Improves Hair Thickness | It increases hair thickness and overall hair health.

Scientific Support for PRP: Several scientific studies have highlighted the benefits of PRP treatment for skin and scalp issues:
1. Skin Rejuvenation: - A study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology found that PRP improved skin texture and elasticity, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and enhancing skin smoothness. (Jung et al., 2014)
2. Acne Scars and Pigmentation: Research in the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery demonstrated that PRP, when used in combination with microneedling, significantly improved acne scars and skin texture compared to microneedling alone. (El-Domyati et al., 2018)
3. Hair Loss Treatment: A study published in the Dermatologic Surgery Journal showed that PRP injections led to an increase in hair density and thickness in patients with androgenic alopecia, demonstrating its efficacy in treating hair loss. (Singhal et al., 2015)
These studies corroborate the effectiveness of PRP as a treatment option for enhancing skin health and promoting scalp rejuvenation.

Lipolysis | Deoxycholic Acid Treatment
What is Deoxycholic Acid?
Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring bile acid that helps break down and absorb dietary fat. In aesthetic medicine, it is used as an injectable treatment to target and dissolve localized fat deposits.

Process:
Consultation: A thorough assessment by a qualified healthcare provider to determine suitability for treatment. Discussion of treatment areas (e.g., under chin, bra area, jelly rolls) and the number of sessions required.
Preparation: Targeted area is cleansed and a topical anesthetic is applied, or ice pack to minimize discomfort. Treatment area is marked with a grid pattern to guide precise injections.
Injections:
Deoxycholic acid is injected into the fat layers using a fine needle. The procedure typically lasts 15-30 minutes, depending on the treatment area.
Post-Treatment Care:
- Patients are advised to apply ice packs to reduce swelling.
- Avoid strenuous activities and intense heat exposure for a few days.
Follow-Up:
- Multiple sessions (typically 2-6) are about four to six weeks apart for optimal results.
- Your nurse will monitor progress and assess any adjustments needed for later treatments.
Benefits of Deoxycholic Acid Treatment:
- Non-Surgical Fat Reduction: An alternative to surgical procedures like liposuction without incisions or anesthesia.
- Targeted Treatment: Effectively reduces fat in specific, small-pocketed areas that may not be responsive to diet or exercise.
- Permanent Results: Once the fat cells are destroyed, they do not return. However, maintaining results requires adherence to a healthy lifestyle.
Risks and Considerations:
Swelling and Bruising: These are the most common side effects, usually resolving within a few days to weeks.
Pain or Numbness: Some patients experience localized pain, numbness, or redness in treated areas.
Irregularities: If the treatment is not administered precisely, there may be uneven fat dissolution.
Nerve Injury: Although rare, there is a risk of nerve damage leading to temporary facial muscle weakness, particularly when treating areas around the chin.

Not for Everyone: Not suitable for individuals with loose skin, poor skin tone, or infections in the treatment area.

Deoxycholic acid injections are a minimally invasive solution for localized fat reduction and can provide lasting results when performed by an experienced professional. It is vital to have realistic expectations and a thorough clinic consultation to ensure the treatment is appropriate for your needs and body type.
